Last week was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. Especially in terms of the iPod strategy. To begin with the purchase order fell through, then the credit card was declined twice. I was actually in the shop with the 5 units in my hand! I left the store empty handed, resolute on getting the problems sorted tomorrow.
The nextcday was to bring another bump in the plan. The Director of Drama wanted a rational for the expenditure. Luckily she had just bought an iPod Touch herself so I didn’t have to explain to her the appeal and power of these wee machines. She appeared to accept the rationale (which was also eloquently supported by my line manager). All I had to do was to get Caroline to write up a mobile usage policy and for finance to fix the account issue. Unfortunately, the Director of Finance pounced and the deal was dead in the water. I was gutted.
It was something to do with how the final bid was submitted, making my part of the overall finance null and void. Adam is going to see if he can persuade finance otherwise as soon as he can. I’ll just have to sit and hold my breath.
On a positive note, I forked out for an iPhone yesterday. It’s about time I had a mobile, afterall I am trying to lead the m-learning charge! It’s been 3 years or there about since my last. I don’t think I would have done it if it wasn’t for the iPhone though.
I’m particularly interested in the GPS functions, there’s a lot of interesting work being done in Education and Art with this set of tools.
I have also been absorbing myself with Clay Shirkey and Charles Leadbeater podcasts. Shirkeys stuff is exceptional and I must get a hold of his books.
