I have begun to formulate idea’s for the forthcoming Micro teaching assignment on my PG-Cert Course. At the moment they are no more than an initial concepts but I think I will start with exploring the idea of teaching blocking notation to a group of novices. I have yet to decide on the members of this small group, perhaps the other PG-Cert students?
I want to adopt a blended approach, as it becoming more familiar to me. Linking a live practical workshop with an online experience of some kind. I have always wanted to create a podcast and I feel that I could create two; one as a prelude to the lesson and another of the lesson itself to be subscribed to later by the student. In order to do this I would have to record the lesson and create an online space (Moodle?) to host it. I could edit it with extra content added to clarify certain aspects that do not work in a ‘live’ situation. This would allow the student to bith practice and recap at thier leisure.
Evaluation of the session would be done using an online Critical Incident Form, again on Moodle and done after the session itself.
To ensure the session is inclusive I will have to plan my handouts and documentation very carefully and all learning styles are addressed equally. As with all my classes, the content would involve student participation and perhaps even peer support from one of my senior students (I already have a volunteer should the requiremnet arise).
More developments to follow as they occur…
